Music
I’ve been playing harmonica and singing since high school. I’ve been privileged to have jammed with Jeff Healey, Ike Turner, Sharon Jones and many more. The highlight of my musical career so far was playing in the celebration of Quincy Jones’ 50-year career at Harbourfront Centre’s “World Leaders Festival” in Toronto. One of the songs I played on, Sister (Miss Celie’s Blues), I performed with the great Molly Johnson right in front of Mr Quincy Jones himself!
I’ve played in several bands, including Dr Colossus (aka: The Dunn City Heat Squad, aka: The Echo Rockers; based in Toronto), The Cosmic Blues Band (Kumamoto, Japan), The Payback (Toronto) and currently, The Rice Kings (Tokyo). The styles of music have ranged from garage funk to soul, rock and blues.
I also DJ occasionally as either So Fresh or Matty Dubbs, spinning funk, disco-funk, afrobeat and rare grooves. Here are some videos of my current project, The Rice Kings:
The Rice Kings: Come In My Kitchen
The Rice Kings: She Caught The Katy
The Rice Kings: Chevrolet
The Rice Kings: Messin With The Kid
